Medical records disclosure

I have been asked to consent to an insurance company having full access to my medical records. Is it compulsory to disclose my entire medical records to support a claim? I only visited the doctors once in relation to my accident and feel that this is the only information that they are entitled to.

I am a very private person and feel that full access is not warranted. I have no quarms into releasing the particular details of the incident.

Hi Thomas

Do you have a solicitor dealing with your claim?  If not I would advise that you get one and they will be able to help you with this sort of advice.  Having a solicitor deal with your claim is free and they work on a no win no fee basis the insurers will pay them at the end of your claim.

In answer to your quest yes they generally require your full medical history in order to ensure that you have no pre-existing medical conditions which will affect your symptoms and injuries post accident.

A solicitor will only disclose your medical records to a medical professional who will only include relvant parts of your medical history within your report.  If you do not wish for solicitors to see the records even they can be forwarded directly to the expert who will treat them with the same patient confidentiality as your own medical practitioner.

Feel free to contact me by clicking on our web link below or advert to the right of this post if you would like more advice.

If your claim is worth less than 10k and arises out of a Road traffic accident, then you do not have to agree to your notes being disclosed. If over 10k, you can do as has been suggested by inurylawyersuk.I am a solicitor with 20 years experience , if you want a no obligation discussion free of charge, please contact me on 07506044484
