road accident -

i was in a road accident 2 years ago, with my mum and dad in the car. as a result of this accident - my mother died 3 days later, and my elderly father was in hospital for 6 weeks. i was the driver of my car. the other driver pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving, and causing gbh to my father .
he pleaded guilty over a year ago, and was sentenced. I am wondering how long these cases take to settle - is my father entitled to Statutory bereavement award, as my mum died ( he is in his 80's - mum was in 70'5) . my dad had broken ribs, and general bruising. I had sciatica, and have had general guilt/anxiety issues since accident.

Hi

First of all I am very sorry to hear about this very nasty accident.  I can not imagine the grief it has caused.

Yes indeed you are both entitled to Compensation as a result of the accident, however given the nature of the accident I must stress that you do get a solicitor if you do not already have one dealing with your claims.  You only have 3 years to persue your claims due to limitation, your father's age makes no difference to his claim for both personal injury to himself and also Bereavement awards.  These are generally a standard sum, which a solicitor will discuss with you and your father in due course.

If you have not already appointed a solicitor we would be very pleased to assist you and obvioulsy ensure that your claim is dealt with by one of our highly specialist solicitors.  You MUST start your claims within the next month or two if you have not already done so.  Most solicitors like a minimum of 6 months to run the claim before the expiry of limitation.

We are also able to provide rehabilitation and other assistance to you both in terms of  Counselling etc.

Please feel free to contact us on 0800 1123 156 to see how we can assist you if you do not already have solicitors.  I can assure you you will be in safe hands.  We are regulated by the MOJ and all of our solicitors are regulated by the Law Society.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
Matthew

We define accident as an unexpected and undesirable incidence that happens in our life and most of the times, it brings a terrible change into it. All of us must have witnessed road accidents as they have become a part of our day to day life. Statistics of road accidents are increasing day by day; it loudly speaks about our system, our drive sense and most importantly our ignorance about following the traffic rules.
