Burnt with thermoplastic during work related accident.

In October 2009 I was remarking a road junction In Wembley Using thermplastic. I was knocked over by an uninsured van driver, dropping the jug of thermo, which is heated to a temperature of around 230 degrees. I subsequently fell over and laid in the spillage, which burnt through my trousers and caused quite severe burns to the back of both of my legs. As a result I lost two months earnings, (around 6k), and I am scarred for life. I'm claiming compensation, but my solicitor will not help me with regards to an estimation of recompense. I will hopefully be paid out within the next 6 months, which is great, but I'm eager to know whether its Costa Del Sol or Costa Del Clacton for me this year. Please can anyone advise?

The value very much depends on the severity of the scarring, any ongoing pain or psychological damage, loss of earning, out of pocket expenses and the like.

Given that you are a male (which is a presumption on my part given your job) it will be less than  a woman would receive, and if it is not clearly visible such as a facial injury, then this will also reduce the amount.

The value of the injuries can range from Â?1,100 - Â?2,200 at the lower end of the scale up to Â?19,000 - Â?442,000 at the very upper end of the scale and there are values in between.

Only your solicitor can give you a value as there are so many other elements to consider, and they should have at least provided you with a ball park figure of what they will be looking to recover.

Get back to your solicitor and ask them to give you an estimate of what they feel your claim is worth

Thanks very much for your help TC. The scarring on the worst leg is roughly 150-180mm long and 30-80mm. I lost around 6k in earnings and I'l never wear shorts again. I am also irrationally wary when crossing the road nowadays. My solicitor said he will have more of an idea when I have been to see a plastic surgeon. I suppose surgery will raise the amount too. People  I have spoken have (g)estimated between 20-50k. This may be optimistic but we will see.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Your solicitor is correct to a certain degree in that the fact you need surgery does indeed increase the value, however that does not preclude him from at least giving you a ball park figure as to what sort of figure you can expect.

On top of compensation for your injuries, you also get a payment for pain and suffering, and the fact that you require further surgery means that the pain and suffering amount will be increased.

As a by the by, I have just seen that the upper figure I posted in my earlier post came out as Â?442,000.  It should have read Â?42,000, substantially lower I am afraid.

T.C. that's fine.

If I can claim anywhere near Â?42,000 I will be more than happy. Thank you for your help.

Pilaw, thank you too. I have signed an agreement with my solicitor, and they have invested time and money into resolving my case. It is also what they specialise in. so I will stick with them.

I tried to post a picture of the injury on here, but apparently its too big.
