car accident with tennant

Hi.
My tenant and i used to be good friends, about 8 months ago i was backing up on the driveway and bumped into his vehicle.
I apologised and ensured him i was fully covered on my car insurance and given him the necessary details. Months later when he had gotten 4 months into rent areas, he has decided to hold back on paying Â?1500 on the grounds that this is the cost i owe to fix the damage to his vehicle, which he has himself tampered with since the accident with holes & filler ect.
This was never the agreement and i have asked him on numerous occasions to contact my insurance company who i have already informed.

I am now considering to take legal proceedings with regards to his rent arrears to have him evicted however i am still unsure what i should do with regards to his failure to speak with my insurer.

Any advice will greatly be appreciated.
Thanx

The issues regarding the rent owed and the insurance claim are completely seperate matters, particularly as you have furnished him with your insurance details and you are prepared to admit liability.

Is the agreement between you under the Landlord and Tennants act?

If so, then you probably need proper legal advice withg respect to issuing proceedings and having him evicted, but the bottom line is that he cannot withhold payment simply because he has chosen not to advise his insurers.

Makes you suspect that he is not insured himself!
