accident on the escalator

Being in a mall I went on the escalators. I was wearing a long dress and the lower part of my dress was pulled down by the stairs. With all strength I fell down and broke my leg. At the place of an accident came arrived the ambulance and took me to the hospital. What's more a detached piece of my dress blocked the mechanism for a entire day. The store manager claims that it was my fault because I used the escalators improperly. Can I apply for a compensation from the mall manager? I am currently on a sick leave with a leg in a plaster cast.
