broken leg -compensation

My accident happend at work in july 2007 for reasons beyond injured's control. I didin't have a training in occupational health and safety.I broke leg and have a enter metal screws and plates.  an ambulance drove me hospital, there I've a opaeration and later a rehabilitation. I possess the medical documentation and there were witness to an accident. I notified her employer of accident. What can i do? Should I claim a compensation in my case?
