A Fort Collins man accused of killing his fianc??e in a car crash faces prison time. Daniel Derby, 29 remains in Larimer County Jail while facing charges of vehicular homicide and assault while under the influence, among others. He was driving his Honda sedan on Timberline Road between Prospect and Mulberry when vehicle swerved across the centerline, slamming into an oncoming Ford Explorer. Jessica Whipple, 23 who was riding in the passenger seat, was killed. Derby and Whipple were engaged to be married soon. Derby was on parole and didn't have a license when the wreck occurred.
Public defender Erin Richmond said, Derby was a "father figure" to Whipple's 5-year-old son and was employed when the wreck occurred. Judge Dave Williams said, considering allegations against Derby and his history that included failure to appear in court. Derby is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicu-lar assault, aggravated driving with a revoked license, unlawful use of drugs, drunken driving with a previous offense and reckless driving.
