trip/fall dodgy paving slab

Hi all, i had a fall 4 months ago on a dodgy paving slab, i contacted the council directly as i had sore ribs for a few weeks and today was diagnosed with sprained knee ligaments (soft tissue damage). the council have accepted 'PRIMARY LIABAILITY although i am to recieve a 30% deduction due to 'contributory negligence'; i am unsure as to what i should expect or rather push for as i have not sought any legal advice as i thought going direct would speed things up (which it has), however i am unsure how to play it now. i am expected my offer soon but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest that he meets with 2 or 3 solicitors to find the right one to represent him and his claim.
