RTA - settlement time

In February 2009, I was involved in a RTA, the other veichle was on the wrong side of the road when it hit me. My son and i were taken to the nearest hospital. I was off work for 18 weeks as i had damaged my knee and couldnt walk or put weight on it. In June 2009 the other party admitted liability. My treatment did not finish until February 2010 and although i am still in  pain it is nothing in comparison to what it was.
I am very concerned however about the length of time my claim has taken. The lawyer i have started to collected my medical records in March 2010. In December 2010 i was assessed by a consultant at the hospital but i have heard notyhing since and it is now March 2011.
Can someone tell me if this is normal and how much longer this is likely to drag on for as i am thoroughly fed up with the whole matter.

Each case is different however this does seem a little slow.

I suggest that you speak to your solicitor and find out where the claims are up to.

I would normally expect  to receive an offer of settlement within about 6 weeks of submitting medical evidence.

Hi

As Martyn has said every case is different and therefore depending on injuries and other issues with the claim some claims do take longer than others.

I would assume if you have had your medical reports, provided they give a good prognosis and it is decisive and not recomending any further medical evidence then your solicitors would want to settle just as much as you do.  Don't forget they dont get paid until you do either.

So I would also suggest chasing them up on your claim, if you have approved your medical report ask if they have disclosed it to the defendant.  If they have and more than 21 days has passed since then I would assume they would want to issue proceedings also so that they would get more costs for dealing with your claim.  It may be a case where your claims have simply slipped their diaries.

Speak to them and ask them for a full update.
