Hit a pedestrian, not his fault..

Hi, a family member has had an accident, he was going through green traffic lights, when a pedestrian ran out and hit the side of his car, the impact knocked the pedestrian unconscious, and badly broke his arm, he was taken to hospital  with a head injury, and we don't know how bad the injuries are yet.
Does the driver have to inform his insurance, and could the pedestrian make a claim against him, even though the Police have said it wasn't his fault please? (There are witnesses)
Also will he have to make further statements, and what will happen next, many thanks.

Hi me being a padestrian involved in a car accident myself i was advised that if the driver is going the legal speed limit on the road that he/she should have time to stop if someone does run into the road hence the advertisements about if you hit me at thirty and stuff. my case is a completely different story to yours i didnt run into the road he purpesly hit me. But they judge the speed limits on the safety of the road hence why 60 roads mainly are where there are no padestrians. It all lies on if he wants to press charges and if these witnesses say she was speeding or if she was at the legal limit. If this is the case that he/she was going the limit they may try and argue it out that he/she would have not occurred the injurys he/she has. All lies on what the witnesses say.

Hi Ashley,
thank you for your reply, I'm so sorry you've had such an awful experience and hope you're OK now.
The person driving was doing 35mph on a 40 mph road, he has several witnesses that all say he couldn't have done anaything to avoid the person that ran out in front of him.
We will have to wait and see what happens now, thanks again.

Hi
I was involved in a similar accident myself about a year ago and only couple of days ago I found out that the pedestrian I hit is claiming for personal injuries... I was told that the matter would not be investigated any further as I was not at fault unless if the person makes a request within the 6 months from the date of the accident then further investigation into the matter would have taken place... I am wondering how your case was resolved and the outcome of it... I would like to hear from you... thank you
