driver hasn't been found

The disaster struck unexpectedly. My girlfriend was involved in a hit and run and seriously injured. It was a head-on collision with a load vehicle. The other driver hasn't been found. She had no automotive or health insurance having been layed off for almost a year. The vehicle is a total loss.
The vehicle is not paid off but under her  father's name, because she couldn't get credit. She was paying her father back in small amounts.
Do we contact the finance company and inform them of the total loss and the fact that the vehicle did not have insurance? Since the account was under her father's name what risk to his credit/legal status would this since his daughter was driving his vehicle withouit insurance?
I count on sb's help.

I had a similar incident. Phone the motor insurance bureau they deal with compensation for drivers involved in collisions with uninsured drivers from which she should get the value of the vehicle and compensation for the injury. Natalie

Hi Cocolim, sounds like a terrible accident and hope your partner is making a speedy recovery.

It would be my advice to contact teh Motor Insurers bureau direct and not appoint a solicitor, the MIB are usually "harsh" when paying solicitors costs if are paid on a fixed basis (which solicitors try to avoid) if you do find a solicitor that will do the work on a no-win no fee then check what eprcentage of a deduction they will be taking at the end of your claim which accounts towards their costs. when you claim via teh MIB you are also liable for a 300.00 proprerty excess and if you vehicle is quite old it may well swallow it up.

Good luck

definetly shouldnt be even on the road without insurance.
this big pot of money that is related to the motor insurance bureau, shouldnt pay you out anything in my opinion, we pay it out of our premiums, why should illegal drivers get a payout.
