Loosing working hours because of the accident

I am a driver. As there are very strict rules about driving licences for profesionalists I had to pass additional exam when they ask for it (usually every 3 years). During my exam the other driver caused the accident and I couldn't pass everything that day due to the fact that I was hospitalized. After all they told me that they will organize another exam only in 6 months! I stayed without job for the 6 months. That time my wife was pregnent and we had to face very serious financial problems. To add more, my employer didn't allow me to work overhours as usually (meanwhile, the other driver had to replace me at work and now we have to share the hours - sometimes I don't even work full time!). I received the compensation for the injury but they informe me that I am not to get anything more. Is taking the lawyer reasonable in my case?
