Verbal abuse in the public place

I became offended by the ex wife of my boyfriend. She started shaouting at me and accusing me of being immoral using very strong words. I would like to mention that the situation took place in the supermarket where I work. Not only did the clients hear her shauter but also my supervisor and collegues from work. In fact I couldn't stand up for myself as I was at work. I felt extremly humiliated. People from work were commenting on my private life and they were recalling the raw. I had to quit that job as I couldn't stand it any more. Is there any possibility to get the compensation for this?
