injur whilst using unsuitable machinery

I have worked by defective machinery, as a result I lost a big toe. Can I expect the compensation will be paid by employer insurance company?

Erm....to be honest.  You will need to say why was the machine defective.  And also what type of footwear you were wearing. 

If however its clear that the machine is defective then there shouldnt be any problem.  Losing your big toe is a huge claim for compensation.
